Polemiq

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2025

1. Who we are

Polemiq (polemiq.org) is an anonymous debate platform. We do not require accounts, email addresses, or any personal information to use the service.

2. Data we collect

We collect the absolute minimum to operate the service:

  • Anonymous visitor ID — a random UUID stored in a secure, httpOnly cookie (polemiq_anon_id). This is used solely to enforce one-vote-per-message and one-side-per-debate rules. It is never linked to your identity.
  • Debate content — arguments you submit are stored in our database and are publicly visible as part of the debate record. Do not submit personal information in your arguments.
  • Votes — your upvote or downvote on an argument is stored alongside your anonymous ID to prevent duplicate votes.

3. Data we do NOT collect

  • Name, email address, phone number, or any contact details
  • IP address (beyond what standard web infrastructure logs transiently)
  • Device fingerprints or browser fingerprints
  • Location data

4. Cookies

We use a single functional cookie (polemiq_anon_id) that is strictly necessary for the service to work. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.

We use Vercel Analytics for aggregate, privacy-friendly page-view counts. Vercel Analytics does not use cookies; visitors are identified by an anonymised daily hash that resets every 24 hours and cannot be used to track individuals across days or websites.

5. Third-party services

  • Supabase — database and realtime infrastructure (hosted in EU/US depending on your region). Supabase Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel — hosting and edge network. Vercel Privacy Policy.
  • Google Fonts — font delivery. Your browser fetches fonts from Google's servers; Google may log the request.

6. Data retention

Debate records (arguments, votes) are retained indefinitely as part of the public debate archive. Your anonymous ID cookie expires when you clear your browser data.

7. Children

Polemiq is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
